Please read on to avoid the pitfalls of purchasing parallel imports or counterfeit products.
Parallel imports or “grey market products” are Canon products that Canon did not intend to import to the European Union (EU) and other countries of the European Economic Area (EEA).
Since Canon localises its products to meet the needs of each specific market, products intended for sale in the EEA (including Ireland) will come with different accessories, manuals, [software] and warranties to those that are intended for markets outside the EEA, such as the USA, Hong Kong and China.
If you take the risk and purchase a parallel product, you may end up with the wrong user manual, incompatible accessories and your product may not be eligible for our European warranty and technical support. Some parallel importers will even add travel style mains adapters which may not satisfy European safety requirements in an attempt to ensure the battery charger can function in your particular country.
You may also find it difficult to obtain a refund from the seller under Irish law, if the seller is based outside the EEA.
Please be aware of the many websites that are designed to trick you into believing they are actually selling genuine Canon branded goods when in fact they are selling fake or counterfeit products.
Fake electrical products can be dangerous and may cause injury and damage to you and your property. Shopping on websites selling fake products may also expose you to identity theft and fraud.
Find out more about identifying fakes.
It has come to our attention that there are several websites claiming to offer significantly discounted Canon products at 90% off or more. These websites are designed to look like our official Canon Store and we believe they are not legitimate, aimed only at confusing and deceiving our customers into sharing personal and financial data. We advise our customers to be vigilant when shopping online with Canon and other retailers.
To recognise the official Canon online store, all Canon stores across Europe have a similar domain name: https://store.canon.xx
The final characters change per country. For example: https://store.canon.fr & https://store.canon.co.uk
We have a dedicated team that work closely with the Police, Customs and Trading Standards to protect you from the dangers of fake products.
If you think you may have purchased a fake product or have any information regarding a site you suspect may be selling fake goods, please contact us at ipr.info@canon-europe.com
